The Prerelease is your first opportunity to get the cards from the new set. Prereleases are Sealed Deck tournaments, which means you do not have to bring your own deck. You will build it from cards provided to you during the event. Each player in a Prerelease event will receive a Prerelease kit.
In this kit, you will receive 6 play booster packs of the set and a Prerelease Promo card. Your Prerelease Promo will be a foil version of a random rare or mythic rare from the set. Using the cards in those 6 boosters, plus your promo, you will build a 40 card deck (basic lands are provided for free).
After you build your deck, there will then be 4 rounds of Swiss pairings, which means you can play all 4 rounds regardless of win or lose, and you will be paired against people with similar records each round. Based on how well you do, you may receive additional booster packs as prize at the end of the event. In addition, you get to keep all the cards you opened in your Prerelease kit as well.

Each event will have a limit of 40 players. We encourage you to preregister to guarantee your spot. If you cannot make it to one of the scheduled events, but you still want to participate in the Prerelease, or if you just want to get more Prerelease cards, you can purchase Take Home Prerelease Kits as well.
